In this episode of Inner Light, I sit down with host Aanya for a raw and reflective conversation about what recovery really means.

We talk about addiction recovery as more than just getting clean. It’s about learning to live with clarity, purpose, and intention. I share the story behind my 90-day recovery curriculum, how it was born from my memoir A Vision of Hope, and why I ultimately decided to create Reflections as a companion workbook to help others dig deeper into their own transformation.

The goal of this program is simple but powerful: to help people heal, gain direction, and rebuild their lives with intention. We discuss how structure can feel restrictive at first, yet with the right mindset, it becomes a container for freedom. Recovery is not punishment — it’s preparation for the life you actually want to live.

We also talk about resilience, what it really looks like, and how it develops through the practice of intentional living. It’s not about forcing yourself to be strong; resilience is a natural byproduct of living in alignment with your values. When you start making decisions based on purpose instead of pressure, your life begins to reflect a different kind of strength — the kind that can’t be broken by circumstance.

Aanya and I explore how public perception shapes policy, and why removing stigma from drug addiction must begin with honest storytelling. The narrative around recovery has to change if we want people to seek help without shame. Everyone has something to recover from — whether it’s grief, trauma, lost dreams, or simply forgetting who they are. True personal growth begins when we stop pretending we’re fine and start facing what’s real.

We touch on Mark Cuban’s idea of “signal vs. noise,” and how filtering out distractions can help us focus on what truly matters. Clarity, I’ve learned, doesn’t always come all at once. Sometimes it comes in moments — quiet, consistent choices that pull you closer to who you were meant to be. Healing doesn’t follow a straight line. It takes work, reflection, and patience.

During the episode, I share part of my own story — how I saw both a grief counselor and a therapist after my fiancée’s suicide, and how that process of trauma healing ultimately deepened my purpose. Pain will shape you, but you decide whether it breaks you or builds you. For me, that pain became the foundation for helping others rediscover their light.
